Here is some descriptions to explain how the Grief IS SUPPOSED be played by the CASUAL PLAYERS. But, being CONFIRMED PLAYERS, it's evidently not our way to play the Grief.

"Fight the undead WITH or AGAINST the other team. But in the end, only one team survives..."

Grief mode, also referred to as 4z4 and Last Man Standing, is a playable mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops II's Zombie mode where matches of two to eight players in various team-sizes try to outlast each other in the zombie outbreak.

Grief features two factions: CIA vs. CDC on Green Run and Buried, and Alcatraz Guards vs. Alcatraz Prisoners on Cell Block. The teams cannot directly harm one another, but they can still hinder each other by blocking the enemy team's way or luring zombies towards them. Collected power-ups only reward the team that picks them up (Only the collecting player's team will be awarded the points from Nuke and Carpenter, and the effects of Double Points and Insta-Kill). Knifing an enemy player pushes them and slightly delays revive time as well as briefly stunning them. Occasionally, a Zombie Flesh will drop and, when thrown at another player, will attract the horde of zombies to them. Theoretically, this can be used to have a bigger lobby of teammates, and survive to higher rounds. But the teams will still only be able to get power-ups for their technical team. Edward Richtofen or Brutus can be heard in the beginning of each match, talking to both teams, and when a player dies or leaves the match, he will announce their departure/demise. Upon having a person go down, an icon (depending on what faction they are in) will appear over them, to show the players whose team member is down. In addition, after beginning, the player will see either a CIA or CDC logo near the round counter.

When an entire team is downed, the other team will win IF at least one player from that team is alive and survives the rest of the round. If both teams are completely downed, every player will be revived and the round will restart.

  • This is the first zombies game mode where players are not all on the same team.
  • This is also the first zombies game to allow eight players in one game.
  • The CIA and CDC operatives wear outfits taken from the first Black Ops, the CIA Agents wear the Secret Service model seen in "U.S.D.D.", and CDC operatives wear the CIA Hazmat suits seen in the level "Rebirth". The first person models for CDC are also taken from Rebirth. They also have the same character models from the humans that are seen after using the V-R11. The CDC bear the resemblance of the characters from Dead Ops Arcade.
  • When players from the opposite teams knife or shoot each other, butterflies explode out of where the knife or shot wound should be. In Cell Block, purple electricity explodes out instead. In both cases, the player that is shot or knifed will be stunned for a second.
  • The Survival mode and Grief mode on Green Run zombie women use different models. İn Survival, They wear a torn up T-shirt and a skirt while in Grief they wear a jean-type skirt with a dress.
  • From a radio message, the reason that the CIA and CDC are fighting is because one side is hearing Maxis's voice while the other is hearing Richtofen's voice, though only Richtofen's voice can be heard in-game.
  • In this mode it appears Richtofen is enjoying that two friendly factions must fight against each other so only one can survive.
  • The Ray Gun does not appear in Grief in Town or Farm, but it does appear on Cell Block and Borough.
  • In Cell Block the factions are the Alcatraz Guards and the Alcatraz Prisoners.
  • If everyone on both teams die, all players in the game respawn with all weapons and points, and the current round restarts. Only perks are lost.
  • The Fire Sale is the only power-up that helps both teams.

Grief is a two team survival Zombies game. The last team standing wins. Since this is basically a survival mode, see the Survival Basics section for many tips.

Stick close to your team and buy Quick Revive along with other perks. As long as one player is alive while the other team dies, your team will win.

This game mode starts off incredibly slow. There will be few zombies with eight players fighting them on a small map. It may be easier or more fun to start off at a higher round so everyone gets to kill zombies and rack up points.

You can grief the opponents by knifing someone while they're reviving their teammates (This will push them and stop them from reviving) or throw monkeys at the opponent who is downed. You can also throw grenades at the mystery box and the opponent loses their weapon.

Grief is a new Zombies mode where two teams of four players fight for survival on one map. Zombies will try to kill everyone, however players cannot kill each other, nor can players on opposite teams revive each other. The last team standing at the end of a round wins.
Note: Grief cannot be played solo, but is a multiplayer only.

Stratagies- There are several different stragies and ways to win. The primary strategy in the grief game type is to ensure that at least one member of your team survives until no one on opposing teams is left standing. When an opposing team member is knocked down by zombies, they have 30 seconds to be revived or they will die permenantly. The goal is to keep the opposing team from reviving their team mates, while ensuring your team is able to defend themselves from incoming zombies.

The Galvaknuckles (Town Exclusive)-  One of the more so expensive but efficient way to clear out zombies. They cost 6000 but will allow you to survive until wave 14 by being only a one hit kill from wave 1 - 13. The knuckles also add a knockback to opponents far greater than the the knife and will also push laid down opponents trying to help downed team mates much farther.

Pray and Spray to stop the Train - this zombie strategy is good for getting rid of those pesky people who enjoy training zombies and giving them a taste of their own medicine. Best done with a automatic weapon and by shooting your opponent he will slow down, as though he was walking through the lava and will remain in a slowed down state. To successfully pull this strategy off short timed bursts to ensure his slowed state stays into play as long as possible, as well as awareness of map and zombies are key in able to make sure he is downed.

EMP, EMP, EMP - if you are so lucky as to get the EMP tacticle granade from the mystery box there are many efficient ways it can be put into play. EMPing perks will turn off the perk machine for a short time, and will force grief opponents to survive without using perks. EMPing the box will reset the box and throw whatever weapon and points the person spent on them away.

Grenade the Box - if you see a opponent with only a pistol trying to save up points to purchase a super awesome mystery box gun off the start watch his points and follow him to the box when he has enough. 4 well timed granades will either cause him to pick up the granade and down himself or will cause him to be unable to pick up the box wepon at all and leave him hopeless for anything in the later rounds. (note: doesn't work on pc)

Knife to Knockback - Knifing is a key element to make sure revives do not happen or to greif the revives. While knifing will knocksomeone back reviving it also is good for throwing someone off their game and to force them off buildings, into zombies, or to just raise a little hell.

Block that doorway - Some areas in the map are better held out than others if you have someone lay down or have 2 people blocking a doorway so a opponent can't get through it may cost him to become down.

Kill for kills not points - Kills are essentail in zombies so if you have the oppurtunity to guarantee a zombie kill rather than rack up points do it and move to the next one especially in the first rounds. If a enemy team has no points they also have no perks or guns.
